Kayaking

The Bevilacqua brothers and I went on a 'fieldtrip' to a creek in Wenonah and went kayaking! I absolutely loved it. It was my first time and I managed not to capsize my kayak, unlike the most experienced of us all-I won't mention any names Uncle Bob...

It was a gorgeous day-so pretty.
Uncle Pat said he'd do it again in another 69 years!!

It was a very complicated process trying to get the kayaks on the truck-uncle Pat was ready for lunch before we even got there.

I really enjoyed it and will be ready for white water rafting in Colarado in no time!!!

Mexico....Paradise

Mexico is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. The view of the aquamarine coloured ocean, the white sands, the tropical feel of the palm trees, the friendliness of the Mexicans and the constant sound of salsa and merengue made me fall in love with the place!!

Thankyou so much for looking after me in the way you did Uncle Bob and Aunt Carm. I love you to bits. Your 'gooseberry' was honoured to be sharing your 40th Anniversary with you!!!! The love you both share and the love you have given to me, so generously, is inspiring. xx

No rest for the wicked!!!

The Riu Palace Mexico in Playa Del Carmen was out of this world, truly.

We adored swimming with dolphins-it was a wonderful, wonderful experience-unique. I was a little bit scared to begin with. Uncle Bob on the other hand went for the big kiss straight away.
Aunt Carm and I had to do 'some' shopping!
This is the beautiful view of the courtyard from my veranda that I was waking up to.
After a 'strenuous' day of sunbathing, swimming with dolphins and lunching, Uncle Bob and I thought a full body massage was well deserved...

I only wanted a photograph with a sombrero, but the Mexican on my lap, was part of the 'deal' that Uncle Bob made.

The Carribean sea was like no other I've seen.
Happy 40th Anniversary!! I managed to find a church so Uncle bob and Aunt carm could renew their vows!!!. xx

Rubbing the Buddha's belly brings good luck, but being in Mexico, wishing for anything else was a struggle.

I
I couldn't stay away from the Pina Coladas and uncle Bob just could't stay away from the girls!!!

The Amish - Lancaster County

Caron, Alison (from London!) and I went to Visit the religious group 'The Amish' in Lancaster County -quite an eye opening experience! The Lancaster Amish are the oldest Amish community in the States.
This community only travel by horse and buggy and they live completely separately from the rest of the world, they have no electricity in their homes. They follow the bible (sort of!). Each church district decides for itself what it will and will not accept from their own interpretation of it-they then have their own set of rules they follow called -Ordung. This is the neighbourhoods private 'one room' schoolhome. We were told that there would be children of all ages in this classroom (about 16/17 of them) . Their teacher would be about 17 and the children only go to school until 8th grade, after that they work on the family farm until they marry. They are trilingual! At home they speak a dialect called Pennsylvania Dutch, they use High German during worship and English at school.
All the houses like this, with the grain silos. You really did feel like you were stepping back in time in this quintessential rural neighbourhood, but it was quite humbling in a way-you were able to feel the importance of humility, family and community just riding through the town and seeing how they live. It was slightly strange but at the same time so peaceful and calm. There was an air of serenity about the place.
I loved having you visit Caron and Ali - we had fun and your smiley faces in Wenonah have been missed already! xx
